From the North -
From Junction 40 on the M6 take the 4th exit if travelling from the south or the second if coming from the north, onto the A66 eastbound which is a short length of dual cariageway. After 1 mile take the 4th exit at the roundabout signposted Eamont Bridge, follow the road through the village and turn right at the mini roundabout onto the B5320 signposted Pooley Bridge and Ullswater.
After crossing the railway bridge, bear left at a fork in the road signposted Askham and Haweswater. Follow this road for just over 2 miles until you double back on yourself turning right signposted Celleron. This is a narrow lane, continue for about 1 mile and turn left at the green sign saying High Winder Cottages into the lane.
From the South
Alternatively heading from the south you can leave the motorway at junction 39 ,turn right onto the A6 and contiue through Shap and after Hackthorpe turn left signposted Askham. After passing Lowther Castle, when in Askham turn right and just after leaving the village bear left into a narrow lane, continue for about 1 mile and turn left at the green sign saying High Winder Cottages into the lane.
Final directions up the lane
Turn left over the cattle grid and follow the drive. After a second cattle grid the drive swings left up the hill through the fields. Do not head straight ahead at this point or you will end up at a nearby farm! Continue up through the fields on the track and you will see High Winder ahead of you.
